Solar Eclipse Update

Attention: We were notified on Monday that our first batch of solar eclipse glasses were recalled. We quickly bought a second, smaller batch of 50 glasses from an approved, certified seller and hope they arrive in time for the event on the 21st. Whether or not the glasses arrive in time, we will make pinhole viewers and other ways to safely view a solar eclipse. Plus, we will live stream the eclipse from NASA in the library, rain or shine! Due to the cost of the glasses and the smaller quantity, we will have to ration them to one per family and only hand them out during the event. Thank you for your patience.

New Pilot Program For Homebound Patrons

The Library Board just approved a new pilot program to begin this summer – Libraries on Wheels! This service is for people who, due to illness or disability, age, or lack of transportation are unable to travel to the library to borrow materials. As long as they have valid library cards with Cannon Falls, they can use the service. How, you may ask? Like this!

  1. Check that you have a valid Cannon Falls library card. You can’t borrow materials without one. If you don’t have one, we can hook you up.
  2. Call the library at 263-2804 to register for the service. You will verbally acknowledge your borrower’s agreement over the phone, but will have to physically sign it when you get your first delivery. During this phone call, you will also identify what your reading or viewing interests are so we can find you materials that interest you most.
  3. Wait up to 2 weeks to receive your first delivery. Volunteers will pick up and deliver items on the same day every 2 weeks. They will call you on delivery day to remind you they will be there and the approximate time.
  4. If you choose to opt out at any time, just call the library to cancel the service.

You see? It’s pretty easy. If you’re interested, or know someone who would benefit from this service, give us a call.

As far as volunteers go, if you are interested in being a volunteer, please call us! We’re looking for volunteers willing to drive out to patrons’ homes, deliver library materials, and spend a few minutes chatting with them. We ask for a commitment of at least 6 months, every other week on the same day. Because of this highly personal service, all volunteers must pass a background check with the police.

We look forward to the benefits this new service will have on our community!

Summer Reading Program Early Bird Perks

Psst! Guess what? This year, we’re trying something a little new with our Summer Reading Program. We’re offering online registration for early birds! If you want to beat the lines on Monday, June 5th, you can go ahead and register online. Buuuut, you still have to visit the library to get your reading logs and all of the other fun stuff (including books). So if you aren’t looking forward to the lines, but you are looking forward to participating in Summer Reading and earning cool prizes, go ahead and register here or here:

Strategic Planning for the Future

Greetings from your new library director, Nicole! I’m so happy to be here as I get to know everyone here in Cannon Falls. The warm welcome I’ve received by all here is simply overwhelming. This town and this library (complete with our awesome library staff) have a lot of great things going for them. One of my goals is to get to know what those things are. I want to get to the heart of what you love about Cannon Falls and our library so I can continue our library’s great services. But I also want to make sure that our library is keeping up with our community’s ever-evolving needs. That’s why I’ve begun the strategic planning process for the Cannon Falls Library.  Not only will it help me to get to know you and the town better, but it will also help our library shape our services for the next three years – based on your input! All you have to do is fill out this community needs survey. It should take you about 5-10 minutes. The survey will be open for 2 weeks, from June 1st through June 15th. I’m looking for input from everyone, no matter how heavy or how light a library user you are.

In case you missed the link above, the survey link is here:

Thank you in advance for your input! It is truly appreciated!
