Participants are invited to a masquerade hosted by Marshall Inglewood, the Governor of Louisiana. The party will be held at the governor’s posh New Orleans mansion, which just happens to be inside the Cannon Falls Library. Everyone is expecting an elegant evening with hor d’oeuvres, (nonalcoholic) drinks, and dancing – they aren’t expecting power outages, a mysterious theft, dastardly deeds, and unsavory scandal! Register today at https://goo.gl/forms/JoS4uEs006z6taku2 or call 263-2804 to get your character assignment!
When you register, you will select up to 3 available characters you prefer to be for the evening. The library will contact you a few days before the event to tell you which character you have been assigned. Then you have the choice of coming dressed in costume on February 9th! Masquerade costumes are encouraged, but not necessary.
All interested adults are encouraged to register at the library by Wednesday, February 6th to get a character assignment. Space will be limited to the first 25 people.
Remember when you met your favorite book? You spent hours together. You loved every clever line, each moment of heart-racing suspense. You come back to those favorite passages again and again, the ones that speak to your heart like you are the only reader in the world. You feel such a connection to this book that you want to shout your devotion from the rooftops! Er… you know this is about books, right?
Cannon Falls Library wants to give you a chance to share your favorite book with other book lovers, listen to recommendations from other readers, and perhaps make a few new friends. To kick off Hot Reads for Cold Nights 2018, Cannon Falls Library staff invite adults of all ages, romantic status, and inclination to come to our Literary Speed Dating event on Friday evening, January 26, 2018 at 6pm. The goal of this event is to find a reading connection. No romance here, unless that’s your favorite book’s genre. No judgment. By hearing suggestions from other readers, perhaps you can find your next great read… or two.
Registration for this event is required due to limited space. You can register online at https://goo.gl/forms/4W8JUIq3TX5yDPat1 or find the link on the Cannon Falls Library website at https://cannonfalls.lib.mn.us, call the library at 263-2804 to register over the phone, or stop in at the library.
We ask that you come prepared with information about your favorite book- the physical book, if possible (bring your own, or check our catalog to see if we have it!), or at least the title and author information. This way, you will be prepared to have conversations with other readers. You will be paired off with other interested readers and given a few minutes to talk about your favorite books before moving on to the next participant. Refreshments will be served at this FREE event.
Hot Reads for Cold Nights will run January 22nd through March 31st.

The library board has a couple of vacancies and is looking for a few good men or women to serve on the library board. We need one city resident and one rural resident of Goodhue County to serve for a 3-year term. What does someone do on the library board? In each monthly meeting, the board discusses policy and library use with the goal of upholding our mission and serving the community. If you’re interested in being part of our library’s role as a thriving and vibrant part of this community, stop by the library and pick up an application.
Attention: We were notified on Monday that our first batch of solar eclipse glasses were recalled. We quickly bought a second, smaller batch of 50 glasses from an approved, certified seller and hope they arrive in time for the event on the 21st. Whether or not the glasses arrive in time, we will make pinhole viewers and other ways to safely view a solar eclipse. Plus, we will live stream the eclipse from NASA in the library, rain or shine! Due to the cost of the glasses and the smaller quantity, we will have to ration them to one per family and only hand them out during the event. Thank you for your patience.
The Library Board just approved a new pilot program to begin this summer – Libraries on Wheels! This service is for people who, due to illness or disability, age, or lack of transportation are unable to travel to the library to borrow materials. As long as they have valid library cards with Cannon Falls, they can use the service. How, you may ask? Like this!
- Check that you have a valid Cannon Falls library card. You can’t borrow materials without one. If you don’t have one, we can hook you up.
- Call the library at 263-2804 to register for the service. You will verbally acknowledge your borrower’s agreement over the phone, but will have to physically sign it when you get your first delivery. During this phone call, you will also identify what your reading or viewing interests are so we can find you materials that interest you most.
- Wait up to 2 weeks to receive your first delivery. Volunteers will pick up and deliver items on the same day every 2 weeks. They will call you on delivery day to remind you they will be there and the approximate time.
- If you choose to opt out at any time, just call the library to cancel the service.
You see? It’s pretty easy. If you’re interested, or know someone who would benefit from this service, give us a call.
As far as volunteers go, if you are interested in being a volunteer, please call us! We’re looking for volunteers willing to drive out to patrons’ homes, deliver library materials, and spend a few minutes chatting with them. We ask for a commitment of at least 6 months, every other week on the same day. Because of this highly personal service, all volunteers must pass a background check with the police.
We look forward to the benefits this new service will have on our community!
Psst! Guess what? This year, we’re trying something a little new with our Summer Reading Program. We’re offering online registration for early birds! If you want to beat the lines on Monday, June 5th, you can go ahead and register online. Buuuut, you still have to visit the library to get your reading logs and all of the other fun stuff (including books). So if you aren’t looking forward to the lines, but you are looking forward to participating in Summer Reading and earning cool prizes, go ahead and register here or here:
Go ahead and sign up!
Greetings from your new library director, Nicole! I’m so happy to be here as I get to know everyone here in Cannon Falls. The warm welcome I’ve received by all here is simply overwhelming. This town and this library (complete with our awesome library staff) have a lot of great things going for them. One of my goals is to get to know what those things are. I want to get to the heart of what you love about Cannon Falls and our library so I can continue our library’s great services. But I also want to make sure that our library is keeping up with our community’s ever-evolving needs. That’s why I’ve begun the strategic planning process for the Cannon Falls Library. Not only will it help me to get to know you and the town better, but it will also help our library shape our services for the next three years – based on your input! All you have to do is fill out this community needs survey. It should take you about 5-10 minutes. The survey will be open for 2 weeks, from June 1st through June 15th. I’m looking for input from everyone, no matter how heavy or how light a library user you are.
In case you missed the link above, the survey link is here: https://goo.gl/forms/WXwnaQcjg7zZ7nxn1
Thank you in advance for your input! It is truly appreciated!
