Please plan accordingly.
Reopening Monday June 8th
At long last, safety supplies and protective equipment are coming into the library for installation.
Beginning June 8th, the Cannon Falls Library will be open by appointment only for limited computer use and browsing the collections during our current, reduced hours of 10:00am-5:00pm on Monday through Friday. We strongly encourage all patrons to wear face masks while in the library, as a courtesy to other patrons who may be at higher risk and to library staff. We will also have hand sanitizer near the entrance. We ask that patrons please use hand sanitizer when entering the building.
Computer appointments will be taken at the top of each hour beginning at 11:00am. In order to ensure social distancing at our computer stations, we can only reserve 3 computers per hour. Patrons will make appointments for a 45-minute session. If you need more than 45 minutes, you will need to leave the library and make an appointment for the next hour, if it is available. During that 15-minute break, library staff will sanitize the computer stations with appropriate cleanser. All appointments must be made by calling 507-263-2804 during library hours.
Library browsing and checkout appointments will be made at the half hour marks beginning at 10:30am. We will make appointments for up to 5 patrons per hour, to allow for adequate time to browse the collection and check out books or movies. All seating has been removed to discourage loitering in the library. You will be allowed up to one hour in the library. All appointments must be made by calling 507-263-2804 during library hours.
The library will continue to offer curbside service and Mystery Grab Bags. The process remains unchanged. Please call the library to let us know you are picking up items you have requested and we will gladly place them outside on the table when you arrive. All items must still be returned in the outside book drop to allow library staff to clean and quarantine those items.
We look forward to seeing you.

STATUS OF SERVICES AT CANNON FALLS LIBRARY
Gradual Plan Being Created to Safely Open the Library for Services
The Cannon Falls Library is gradually opening for service. At this time, we provide the following: curbside delivery, online programs on Facebook and Youtube, mystery bag checkouts, phone and online reference services, and timely, factual information sharing.
Governor Walz has allowed the stay-at-home order to expire and businesses to reopen, but they are cautioned only to do so if they can protect users. Since libraries are “high-touch” spaces, where people often spend a lot of time close together, libraries throughout the SELCO region are working on plans to address those needs.
Among our concerns in Cannon Falls are: number of people in the space, use of shared computing resources, and how to provide a safe user experience for both our patrons and our staff.
Strategies we are undertaking include: cleaning surfaces regularly with disinfectants approved by the EPA, spacing people out at safe distances by scheduling appointments on only half of the public computers at one time, not gathering in groups by offering book discussions, storytimes, craft classes, and fitness classes online, and installing protective equipment to provide protection between staff and patrons with sneeze shields at the circulation desks and public computers, hand sanitizer near the entrance, staff wearing masks, and strongly encouraging the public to wear masks.
Right now we do not have access to enough of the supplies we need to make it possible to reopen. Efforts are under way to obtain those, and to install the necessary equipment. We recognize that our services are essential to so many who are dealing with the pandemic, and in order to be accessible as quickly and safely as possible, anticipate a phased reopening, rather than a “the doors are now open” reopening. As we are able to begin that, we will advise our community through our Facebook page, our website, email newsletter, and by notices posted on our front door.
Please bear with us at this difficult time as we are trying to be responsible and safe for all members of our community. We are excited to see you again soon in the library!
Library Director Miller
We know many of you are wondering how Governor Walz’s reopening of businesses affects the Cannon Falls Library. Since closing, staff and the library board have been working on a plan to safely reopen with a phased approach, and we are currently waiting on delivery and installation of necessary supplies to do so.
We look forward to opening our doors to you soon, but will do so in a way that protects the safety and health of our staff, patrons, and community.
In the meantime we continue to offer curbside, virtual programs, and answering your questions in a “Dial-a-Librarian” kind of way. Watch this page and our website for further updates, and stay well!
If you want something to read, watch or listen to we can put something together for you in a “Mystery Bag.” Call us or email us with what you would like and library staff will do the rest. Items can include magazines, audio books, comic books, DVD’s, music CD’s and books.
Some suggestions for a bag could include materials for a 10 year old who likes sports, science, animals or crafts. A teenager who likes graphic novels, dystopia or anime. An adult who likes cooking, World War II history, finances, exercise – you name it!
Contact the library at 507 263-2804 M-F from 10 to 5 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. and let us know what we can provide for you.
