Haiku Contest

A short poem of three lines; just seventeen syllables. That is a haiku. The first and last lines — each contain five syllables; middle line, seven.

The Contest is Open to poets of all ages!

Send your haiku submissions to the library via mail, in-person, through the book-drop, or by email: mstelter@selco.info

  • Be sure to include your name & contact info
  • Must be your own original creation
  • No limit to submissions per person
  • Submissions must be received by 2pm, April 24th
  • 1st place wins $20 Chamber Dollar$

  • Find as many of the items as you can and submit them by 7 pm

Join us for Library in Motion: Low Intensity Cardio Class at East Side park.
Enjoy socialization outdoors while doing a low-intensity cardio workout. This class is for all mobility and fitness levels.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled for the day.
*All participants must sign a waiver their first class and are encouraged to consult their physician before starting this or any exercise.

Celebrate Earth day with us by making your own reusable food wraps out of a handkerchief and beeswax. This can be done as a family craft with adult supervision.

You will need:
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie sheet
  • Paint brush you can throw away
  • Iron

Soon it will be St. Patrick’s Day and those pesky Leprechauns will be on the loose again, but this year we’re going to outsmart the little guys with the cleverest traps we can find!

The Contest:

  •  Design and build a Leprechaun trap, using ordinary household materials
  •  To enter, send your name, age, and a photo of your trap to: cfl_ill@selco.info by Mar 18
  •  Public voting period will be Mar 18-31
  • 1st Prize of $10 Chamber Dollars for each category: Ages 0 – 12; Ages 13 – 18.
